Labor On Demand, Inc. celebrates 20 years in business

Labor On Demand, Inc. has reached an exciting milestone as the Company celebrates 20 years of providing staffing services to public and private sector employers throughout San Antonio and central Texas. Since 2003, some of San Antonio’s largest employers have relied upon Labor On Demand to supply qualified workers to support their labor needs. In addition, Labor On Demand provides on-site support and vendor management services to help their clients manage large temporary workforces. They also serve their clients as a trusted advisor, by sharing valuable insight into volatile labor markets and helping their clients recruit, train and retain their employees.

The founding principles of customer service still stay true today. Labor On Demand’s CEO and co-owner Lucinda Leal stated, “We started this Company with just a few clients, and while we’ve grown more than I could have imagined, I don’t take for granted what got us here. I continue to treat every client as if they are our only client, just like 20 years ago, and strive to deliver unmatched customer service. I also take care of our people, because without them, we wouldn’t have the success we’ve had. To me, everyone is family. We’re still here where we started, and it is truly a blessing to be able to help the community where I grew up.”

Labor On Demand has maintained their home office next door to where the company was first founded, a small building located near Culebra and I-10. It is currently certified as a HUBZone business serving San Antonio’s federally recognized historically underutilized community. “We want to help everyone find a job” said Frank M., a recruiter for Labor On Demand. “Just come and apply, we will help you any way we can. From their humble beginning to now celebrating their 20th year in business, Labor On Demand looks forward to continued growth and expansion to additional cities and States. They are in the process of rebranding to LOD Staffing to reflect a more dynamic staffing service than simply general labor. “We staff a variety of positions, from general labor, to professional and administrative and many others. We also serve public and private sector clients across a wide spectrum of industries. We want to develop a brand that represents that diversity, not only for potential clients, but to help our recruiting efforts as well,” said Richard Tovar, Director of Business Development.

While reflecting on the past 20 years in business and what the future holds, co-owner Rick Leal stated, “We would be remiss not to mention everyone that has contributed to our success. From our hard-working people and dedicated staff, to our loyal clients, and organizations such as the Small Business Administration who helped us secure funding in times of need and provided guidance and educational opportunities throughout the years. We’re grateful for everyone’s support and hope to be here another 20 years.”

MED Week 2018

Minority Development Enterprise Week is observed to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of small businesses. Labor On Demand (LOD) was awarded the 2018 Minority Staffing Services Firm. Fifteen years ago, LOD was established with the intent to create jobs for the economically disadvantaged community. It is an honor to be recognized for the hard work and achievements our company has instilled into the heart of San Antonio. Our city has a unique history with a robust future combining the needs of a diverse economy. LOD has been able to evolve in tandem with our growing city.

Originally, we focused on manufacturing and production staffing. LOD recognized that we can provide jobs within short time constraints. The recession provided our company with avenues to become more than just a labor company with the capacity to provide professional employment opportunities.

This year we created LOD Resource Group, a certified DBA, under the umbrella of LOD. We wanted the community to view our agency with the capability to foster the multifaceted career development for the new workforce.

LOD’s ability to recognize our growing community needs has made our agency a strong force in our industry.  Our team is dedicated to treating our clients and customers just like family. These relationships provide growth and development alongside our business partners.

LOD provides not only jobs but careers for the right person at the right time. When you are a part of LOD, we are committed to provide quality staffing solutions when you demand it. The avenues that our city provides to entrepreneurs, like myself, makes me proud to foster San Antonio’s development. 2018 Small Business Week

It is officially National Small Business Week! Last week, Labor On Demand had the honor to visit two Associate Administrators. We got to meet Jason Simmons, Associate Administrator, Office Field Operations; and Allen Gutierrez, Associate Administrator, Office of Entrepreneurial Development.

 

 

As the 2017 San Antonio District Woman Owned Business Award Winner, our local SBA representative felt our office would make an excellent visit.

I am blessed and thankful for all the opportunities and guidance I have received through the SBA, UTSA PTAC, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and LiftFund.

Core Values

What I do for Labor On Demand (LOD) has no dollar value, but the impact that I can make on someone’s life is priceless. I will keep my word, and I will do my best to make a positive impact on people. These are some of the core value’s Lucinda has instilled onto the LOD team. As a MBA graduate, I know you should stick to 4 Core Values, these may change, but during my time at LOD I have not seen these main values change but improve. I believe that LOD upholds:

  • Faith
  • Family
  • Integrity
  • Service

 

Faith: The owners of LOD have a strong faith in Christ. They are highly involved in their church community. They give praise and thanks to God for all the blessings that they have received. Spirituality and beliefs can be different to every person. It can be God, Christ, Jesus, Karma, Higher Power, or a belief in something that is greater than yourself that provides a positive outcome or source of energy. It is what guides the individual to greatness that is the true source of strength. Seeing that there is a power greater than yourself is what makes a lasting impact and a legacy for those around you.

 

Family: LOD treats everyone that they meet just like family. Though there are a lot of internal staff that are related, that does not mean they look at anyone they meet any differently. Lucinda greets everyone with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She always goes out of her way to make people feel special, and she is gracious with an open heart. She cries when she sees someone she knows is hurting and will go out of her way to help anyone that is in need. She loves and shows great empathy to everyone around her. From an early age, her family had to take care of each other, and I think this is instilled onto our team and the business heritage at LOD.

 

Integrity: Say what you mean and mean what you say. Lucinda will uphold her promises. She still honors that through conversations, handshakes, or a hug. This is an occurrence that has been disseminated in our current day office atmosphere. Being the person that I am, I have become highly protective over Lucinda’s words and promises to clients. I get hurt when I feel like she gets taken advantage of. Do not get me wrong. She is petite, but her fierceness and determination are nothing you want to get in the way of. Once she knows you have taken advantage of her generosity, she comes after you with her wrath (though still genuine), and she will tell you how she feels. She has a true Christian soul, because even though angry, she never lashes out in hate; she is comfortable confronting an oath that has been broken. Lucinda treats everyone this way. Lucinda’s word and work ethic are admired and respected by everyone in the company.

 

Service: Lucinda give’s her heart out on a regular basis. She has so much modesty that it is hard for her to admit the generosity that she has given to non-profits and charity. She feels like she does not want to brag, but I tell her that people need to know how giving her heart is. So, I will do the bragging for her. Not that I need to, but because she is such an awesome individual. I just feel people need to know how truly incredible she is. Lucinda is one of the most caring, giving and loving individuals I have ever met. She treats me like family, this has given me the instincts to protect and support her with my knowledge and experience. She is amazing, and everything I have ever prayed and asked for as an employee. I am blessed to work, be guided, and be considered family by Lucinda.

Lucinda Leal sponsored 9 women to attend a woman’s retreat, Amazing Grace, that in the past she had attended that changed her life.  She chose 9 people including family and employees to embark on a similar journey that would hopefully would improve their life and spirituality. After attending this woman’s retreat, I truly understand Lucinda better and how she got where she is today.

Being one of the chosen, I was supportive but also unsure. I have always had a spiritual presence, but being responsible for our social media, I decided to divide our business and our spiritual belief in our internet activity.

She is a true believer in God and this guides all her life and decisions, including her business. She puts her heart and soul into everything that she does. When she says something, she will do it. She dedicates herself to everyone around her and she reaps the benefit of a happy and successful life from the support of her loyal employees.

Out of the 9 that were sponsored, 3 got baptized (2 previously baptized) to reaffirm their faith in God and Christ. I was one of the three. I was born and raised Catholic. I consider myself to be an open-minded Catholic, and after conversations with multiple people, I have been called a Universalist. Whatever that may truly mean, I feel it comes with a purpose of believing that you have and are part of a divine being. I feel grateful for my divine being, which I call God, allowing everyone else their own belief utilizing prayer, song, nature, and meditation. I have even attended a few Shambhala Meditations and find them quite gratifying because I can be at peace with myself and focus on my silence with my higher being (God). Again, there are many ways that you can reach your inner peace. I believe that everyone has their own path to an understanding of a higher power and that path may not be the same for everyone. I now realize, you cannot change the world by yourself, but by having strong faith, you can impact those around you with your acceptance and love.

Help the Smith Family Rebuild

Hi friends & family,

One of our family/friend/colleague’s home was engulfed in flames March 19, 2018. Not only is the Smith family dealing with the emotional distress of losing their home, but also the passing of their fur babies. Any contribution you can make to help the Smith family rebuild after such tragedy would be greatly appreciated. Bradley has been such a great employee and friend to Labor On Demand, lets be there for him and his family now.

HUBZone

Labor On Demand, Inc. has been accepted into the HUBZone Program! Effective December 20, 2017 has been approved for certification as a “qualified HUBZone small business concern (SBC)”. LOD is now eligible for HUBZone opportunities and will be included on the list of qualified HUBZone small business concerns found at http://dsbs.sba.gov/dsbs/search/dsp_searchhubzone.cfm

HUBZone is a United States Small Business Administration (SBA) program for small companies that operate and employ people in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones). The HUBZone program was created in response to the HUBZone Empowerment Act created by the U.S. Congress in 1998.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Labor On Demand, Inc. is thankful for it’s many hardworking employees. For two years now, we have been honoring them, by raffling out 25 Thanksgiving Baskets. Each basket is complete with items such as H.E.B. gift cards, stuffing, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberries, brown sugar, rolls and various desserts.  It is just our little way as a company of saying thanks to some of our many employees who work hard on a daily basis.

We believe in our workers and we are grateful to have them be a part of our community. We just want to be able to let them know we appreciate all that they do and want to give them extra blessings during the holidays.

MED Week 2017

San Antonio Business Opportunity Council (SABOC) selected Labor On Demand, Inc. to be honored at its reception during the observance of National Minority Enterprise Development Week (MED Week).

Since 1983, the U.S. President has proclaimed a national MED Week observance to recognize the outstanding achievements of minority business enterprises and to honor those corporations and financial institutions that support minority business development. MED Week celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding minority entrepreneurs and leaders and provides a platform for small and minority-owned businesses to learn about business growth strategies, receive premier training and networking opportunities.

SABOC promotes the utilization of Small Business (SB), Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB), Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HubZone) and Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) concerns throughout San Antonio and South Texas. SABOC is composed of representatives from federal agencies, U.S. Small Business Administration, Bexar County, City of San Antonio, and University of Texas at San Antonio.
